Silkscreen printing, also known as screen printing, is a printing technique where ink is pushed through a mesh screen onto a surface to create a design. A stencil or template is first prepared on the screen to block out areas where ink shouldn't pass through. The ink is then applied over the screen using a squeegee, allowing it to transfer only through the open areas of the stencil onto materials like fabric, plastic, metal, or paper.
Silkscreen Printing
From small batches to full production runs, silkscreen provides sharp details, consistent quality, and durable, water-resistant prints.
Popularised by Pop Art
The technique became iconic thanks to artists like Andy Warhol, who famously used silkscreen printing for his Marilyn Monroe series in the 1960s.
Ancient Art
Silkscreen printing dates back over 1,000 years. It originated in China during the Song Dynasty and was later refined by the Japanese before making its way to the West.
